HEALTHY PLAY

A good session leaves room for everything else.

Practical habits for time, spending and digital wellbeing, whether you play alone or with friends.

PLAY / PAUSE / PERSPECTIVE

Give a session a clear ending

Choose a stopping time before opening a game, and keep sleep, work, study, meals and relationships outside that window. Use an alarm independent of the game. If an activity has no natural ending, finish the current small task when the alarm sounds rather than starting another round. Turning off optional notifications can help keep a leisure activity from interrupting the rest of the day.

Choose a session length that fits your day rather than treating a particular number of minutes as a rule. Take breaks when you need them, especially if you feel uncomfortable or tired, and make room for movement away from the screen. These are general suggestions for browser-game play, not a compulsory timetable.

Build in visual and physical breaks

Look away from the display regularly, blink, adjust the screen to a comfortable brightness and avoid glare. The American Optometric Association describes the 20–20–20 approach: every 20 minutes, look about 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This is general screen-use guidance, not treatment or a guarantee against eye strain. Seek advice from an eye-care professional for persistent discomfort or changes in vision.

For the underlying guidance, see the American Optometric Association’s screen-break advice. A short visual break and a longer break to stand or walk serve different purposes.

Make purchases deliberate

Many games on browser-game platforms are completely free to play; some offer optional purchases. This varies by game, and buying anything is not a requirement across the platforms in this directory. Plan your available time and any spending budget in advance.

Set an entertainment budget in your own currency before considering optional purchases. Translate virtual currency into the actual amount being charged, including any subscription, tax or currency-conversion cost displayed at checkout. Small repeated purchases still count towards the same budget. Avoid saving payment details on shared devices and use the account or device controls offered by the provider.

Virtual credits are governed by the publisher’s terms. Do not assume they are refundable, transferable, withdrawable or an investment. If a purchase feels urgent, pause and read the terms before deciding. This directory does not sell currency, accept deposits or recover third-party payments.

Age requirements need real controls

This directory’s guidance is written for adult readers. It does not collect dates of birth or identity documents and does not provide age verification. An “18+” label would not by itself enforce access restrictions. Each publisher sets the age and account conditions applicable to its product and territory. Parents and carers should use relevant account and device controls, inspect purchase permissions and discuss online communication with younger players.

Notice when play stops feeling optional

Repeatedly missing sleep, hiding spending or finding it difficult to stop are reasons to step back and seek support from someone you trust. Review account notifications, remove stored payment methods where appropriate and reduce access to activities that undermine daily commitments. If your health or wellbeing is affected, speak with a qualified health professional. This page provides practical general information and does not assess or diagnose an individual.
